Torstein Træen is coming home
Some stories really do come full circle. Torstein Træen will return to Uno-X Mobility Cycling from the 2026 season, having signed a two-year deal from 2026 through 2027.
Træen was part of the Uno-X journey from the very beginning — one of the 11 riders presented when the very first Uno-X Hydrogen Development Team was announced back in 2016. He went on to race with the team from 2017, helping to build the foundation of what has since grown into today’s WorldTour-level project.
During his first spell with the team, Torstein became a cornerstone in Uno-X Mobility’s early progress — highlighted by his participation in the team’s historic debut at the Tour de France in 2023. That same year, he delivered one of his strongest stage race performances to date, finishing 8th overall at Critérium du Dauphiné — a breakthrough result at the time and an important step in his progression, as well as in ours.

But his journey to that start line had already revealed the strength of character that defines him.
In 2022, an abnormal doping control result — later traced not to wrongdoing but to a serious health issue — led to the discovery of testicular cancer. It was a life-changing moment, one that could easily have ended his career. Instead, it became proof of his resilience.
After successful surgery and a determined return to training, Træen was back racing within months, quickly reclaiming his place among the sport’s most respected climbers.
“That period changed me,” Træen has said in earlier interviews. “You realise what really matters. I was just grateful to be able to ride my bike again.”

Now, following two seasons competing at the WorldTour level, he returns to Uno-X Mobility with even greater experience — and the same quiet determination that has carried him through every challenge. His 2025 season was one of the best of his career, highlighted by a remarkable performance at the Vuelta a España. where he claimed the leader’s jersey on stage 6, defended it for four stages, and ended up at 9th in GC.
Reflecting on his return, Træen speaks with openness about what the move means to him:
“I can barely describe how much I’m looking forward to becoming a part of Uno-X Mobility. For me, it feels almost like getting back together with a childhood sweetheart — something that has been quietly alive inside me for years, just waiting for the right moment.”
“Joining Uno-X doesn’t feel like just another step in my career. It feels like coming home. There’s a warmth, a familiarity, and a sense of possibility that makes this move incredibly special to me. I’m deeply grateful for the trust, the opportunity, and the belief the team has shown.”
“As I think about the road ahead, I feel nothing but excitement, motivation, and genuine thankfulness. This isn’t just a new chapter — it’s the beginning of something that truly feels meant to be.”
”Like Jonas Abrahamsen, I dream about winning a stage in one of the Grand Tours — the Giro, the Tour de France, or the Vuelta. That would be really, really cool.
My personal goal is to win races — and to help my teammates win theirs. Joining Uno-X really motivates me, because I know it gives me the chance to become the best version of myself.”

General Manager Thor Hushovd highlights the qualities Træen brings with him on his return:
“Torstein is a rider who performs at WorldTour level. He’s shown that clearly with a stage win at the Tour de Suisse and a top-10 finish in the general classification at the Vuelta a España. He’s well liked in the peloton, and we know exactly what he brings to a team.”
“Having him return to Uno-X Mobility feels very positive. He is valuable in one-week stage races and in Grand Tours — supporting the team and fighting for his own results. We’re genuinely pleased to welcome him back.”
With Torstein’s signing, we complete our 30-man squad — ready to take on the men’s first full season at WorldTour level.
