Wærenskjold signs contract extension
Søren Wærenskjold has signed a contract extension with Uno-X Mobility Cycling through the 2029 season.
The Norwegian 26-year-old will continue in red and yellow until the end of 2029. “The Hippo from Mandal” is currently riding his sixth season with the team. — and has grown into one of the team’s most successful riders.
Most recently, that was underlined by his Stage 11 victory at the Tour de France. The sprint showed his trademark hippo power and gave him the 19th professional victory of his career.
A key part of the team’s ambitions in both the classics and the sprints, Wærenskjold has already achieved a lot with Uno-X Mobility. But he is still hungry for more.
Hungry for more Tour de France victories
“We have now achieved a major goal by winning a stage at the Tour de France, but I want us to win more stages for the team,” Søren Wærenskjold says.
For him, extending with Uno-X Mobility was an easy decision.
“It is the perfect team for me. I get opportunities here, the atmosphere is great, and even though it’s a slightly smaller team, everything is very professional. I have everything I need to perform. I believe in the team, and they believe in me, so I have no reason to look elsewhere. That’s also why I was happy to sign a long-term contract.”
When asked about his biggest long-term goal, the answer comes quickly.
“Paris-Roubaix is the big dream, but I’m still very hungry to unlock my potential in the team and to get more Tour de France stage victories,” Wærenskjold says.
From Omloop to the Tour
It is no coincidence that Wærenskjold points to one of cycling’s biggest classics as a dream target.
In 2025, he truly announced himself on the world stage with victory at Omloop Het Nieuwsblad. He is also a former U23 time trial world champion — a reminder of the engine that has made him one of the most powerful riders in the peloton.
With sprint power, time trial strength and classics potential, Wærenskjold has become an important part of the team’s identity and ambitions.
Uno-X Mobility General Manager Thor Hushovd is delighted to see Wærenskjold commit his future to the team.
“Søren has been one of our best riders for years. He has put his faith in us — and we have put our faith in him — and together we have grown into a WorldTour team with WorldTour ambitions. I’m excited to see what kind of victories Søren will bring us in the years ahead,” says Hushovd.
Then he adds with a laugh:
“Also, when you are a sprinter from my part of southern Norway, you have to do a little extra in the negotiations.”
