Dversnes signs contract extension

The Norwegian 29-year-old extends with Uno-X Mobility Cycling until the end of 2028.

Fredrik Dversnes Lavik will keep wearing red and yellow for two more years. Fresh from one of the biggest victories in the team’s history, the Norwegian all-rounder has committed his future to the Norwegian-Danish project.

His victory on stage 15 of the Giro d’Italia was classic Dversnes: brave, clever and full of belief. On a day when most expected the reduced peloton to sprint for the win, he found another way — and fooled the whole field.

“I’ve said for two weeks that I would trick the peloton in Milano. It hasn’t been a secret, but now I did,” Dverra said right after the finish line.

It was his seventh professional victory, his second at WorldTour level, and another major step after his stage win at Tirreno-Adriatico last season.

An easy decision

For Dversnes, staying with Uno-X Mobility Cycling was an easy decision.

“The atmosphere and the feeling in this team mean a lot to me. It is a Norwegian-Danish team, and that makes it both fun, safe and attractive,” says Dversnes.

“I have been on two altitude camps over the last year, spending around four weeks at altitude, and I honestly cannot see myself doing that with a non-Norwegian-Danish team in the same way. We enjoy those trips so much with Uno-X. I don’t think you get that anywhere else — so the choice was quite easy.”

Dversnes joined Uno-X in 2022 and has been part of a period where the team has taken significant steps, both on and off the bike. From fighting for top 10s in smaller French and Belgian races, the team has grown into a WorldTour project competing on the biggest stage in cycling. Since he started, the team has developed in every department.

“Since I came here in 2022, a lot has changed. Sporting results, expectations, equipment and performance — everything has moved up many levels. Back then, we were talking about competing for top 10s in smaller races. Now we are fighting in the WorldTour on the biggest stage.”

A valuable rider to keep

General Manager Thor Hushovd is delighted to extend with one of the team’s most valuable riders.

“Fredrik is one of the most versatile riders we have, and we are truly happy that he is staying. He really got to show his skills on stage 15 of the Giro, where he stayed away from the peloton with a small group and won the stage. I came into the stage in Milan fully believing in him, because I know his strengths. The way he won that stage is also a symbol of how Uno-X Mobility Cycling wants to race: offensive, fearless and willing to make bold choices in the hope that they succeed,” says Hushovd.

Dversnes describes himself as a rider who can be used for a bit of everything — or, in his own words, “a potato”. Before the now famous stage win in the Giro d’Italia, he said this about himself:

“I am a rider who suits the breakaway. I like to think I am strong all the way through and that I can handle a lot. But I have also been good at sprinting from a reduced group, and that is probably what I have been best at so far,” he says.

Still room to grow

At 29, Dversnes still sees plenty of room for growth. For him, the key is to combine the safe environment around him with the work he still has to do himself.

“I think this good and safe environment helps a lot. I have good people around me who take care of me and believe in me. But of course, it is also about doing the work. You have to want it yourself,” he says.

Away from the racing, Dversnes is also clear about where he wants to be. He enjoys life in the Stavanger region, close to his wife and family. On the many travel days with the team, he describes himself in the following way:

“I am probably one of the more joking riders on the team. I can maybe make people a bit tired of me if I get too intense, but I feel like I adapt well to the group,” he says.

That mix is very much Dverra: serious enough to win in the Giro, relaxed enough to keep the bus smiling, and stubborn enough to keep searching for the next opportunity.

The Giro d’Italia has already given him a career-defining moment.

Now, with a new contract signed until 2028, Fredrik Dversnes Lavik will keep chasing more of them with Uno-X Mobility Cycling.
