The 24-year-old Norwegian-American all-rounder will join Uno-X Mobility from 2027 on a four-year contract running through 2030, bringing one of the peloton’s most versatile profiles and a Norwegian connection that goes far beyond his family roots. Sheffield holds both Norwegian and US passports, speaks Norwegian and has been closely connected to Norway throughout his life.

For Magnus Bratli Sheffield, joining Uno-X Mobility is about more than changing teams.

His mother grew up in Gjøvik before moving to the United States to study at the age of 20, where she met Magnus’ father. Sheffield grew up in New York, but Norway remained a constant part of family life. Today, his sister lives in Norway, while his brother also spent several years here before returning to the US to study.

“My mum grew up in Gjøvik, and most of our family now lives around Oslo. She moved to the US to study when she was 20, and that’s where she met my dad. We always spoke Norwegian at home. It was almost our secret family language growing up in the US.”

“Even though we grew up in the US, it was really important to my parents to keep the Norwegian traditions. We travelled back often to visit family. When I was a kid, coming to Norway always felt like a little adventure. In some ways, it still does.”

That relationship with Norway has followed Sheffield throughout his cycling career. He has previously described his Norwegian heritage as a major part of his identity and has regularly returned to the country throughout his life.

Not if, but when

The connection with Uno-X goes back almost as far.

Sheffield was already on the team’s radar as a junior. In 2019, aged 17, he finished third in the junior road race at the World Championships in Yorkshire, behind Quinn Simmons and Alessio Martinelli.

There was already a little Norwegian subplot.

“After I won bronze at the junior World Championships, someone asked me in the press conference if it could count as a medal for Norway as well. I said: ‘This is a medal for both Norway and the US.’”

“I spoke with Uno-X when I was a junior, and I’ve always felt that it was never really a question of if I would ride for the team, but when.”

Seven years later, that moment has arrived.

“Joining Uno-X Mobility feels like closing the circle on the journey my mum started when she moved to the US at 20. Uno-X has always been a team I was interested in, even before I became a professional.”

A rare range

Sheffield joins with five seasons of WorldTour experience behind him and a palmarès that illustrates his unusual versatility.

He won Brabantse Pijl at just 19 years old in his first season with INEOS, before adding stage victories at the Vuelta a Andalucía and Tour of Denmark that same year. Since then, he has finished second overall at the Tour of Norway, fifth at the Tour de Pologne and sixth at the Tour of Flanders.

In 2025, he delivered one of the biggest performances of his career in Paris-Nice. Sheffield attacked on the final climb of the final stage and rode solo into Nice to claim his first WorldTour victory, while also securing fourth place overall.

For General Manager Thor Hushovd, that range is part of what makes the signing so exciting.

“Magnus is a rider with enormous potential, and I don’t think we have seen the full extent of it yet. He has already finished fourth in Paris-Nice and sixth in Flanders. That tells you a lot about the range he has.”

“This is one of the big signings for us, and one we are very proud of. We believe we can give him the environment to take another step and develop into one of the leading riders in the sport.”

The right environment

For Sheffield, the timing feels equally important.

“It has been exciting to follow the development of Uno-X from a professional team into a WorldTour team. I feel like this is the perfect moment in my career, and in the development of the team, to become part of the project.”

“From my first conversations with Thor, I felt that this was an environment where I could take the next step in my career. I’ve heard from both riders and staff that Uno-X genuinely feels like a family. The team keeps growing, but you can still see how close they are. The way they race especially shows that they are one unit.”

And for Hushovd, Sheffield's Norwegian connection is not simply a detail on his family tree.

“We are proud of the Norwegian part of Magnus’ story as well. He has a Norwegian mother, he has spent a lot of time in Norway, and importantly for us, he speaks Norwegian.”

“Language is an important part of the identity we have built as a team. Magnus understands the culture and can become part of it naturally from day one. And on top of everything he can do on the bike, he is an incredibly good guy.”

For Sheffield, the move brings together two parts of a story that have always run in parallel.

Norway has been part of his identity since childhood. Uno-X has been a team he has followed since before turning professional. Now, as both rider and team enter a new chapter, those paths finally meet.

“It feels like the right moment. I’ve followed this team for a long time, and now I’m incredibly excited to finally become part of it.”

Velkommen hjem, Magnus. Vi gleder oss! 🇳🇴💛❤️
